Collection: Hardy Fig Tree Saplings
These are fully rooted fig tree saplings we are growing from cuttings of our own fig trees. This is the first time we are doing this, so we are learning and experimenting.
The varieties we grow are zone 6 hardy and require a dormancy period. They are ideal to be grown in pots. In the warm months you can bring them outside to a sunny location. Once the Fall comes and they lose their leaves, you must take them to a sheltered place, ideally between -2C and 5C with little to no light. We have had success with our garage.
Check our Hardy Fig Tree Care 101 page for more detailed instructions.
We have very limited inventory and they are brand new trees from last fall's cuttings, rooted in our indoor greenhouse. If you are interested in older, larger trees, consider helping a local nursery. We recommend the following:
-
GrimoNut Nursery: a great nursery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. This is where our fig trees came from in the first place.
-
Silver Creek Nursery: our favourite local nursery in Wellesley, ON.
-
Hardy Fruit Trees Nursery: great for very hardy fruit trees, based in Rawdon, QC.
-
Whiffletree Farm and Nursery: also pretty local to us, great variety, in Elora, ON.
-
Nutcracker Nursery and Tree Farm: based in Maskinongé, QC. We haven't ordered from them yet, but they have a nice selection of indoor citrus trees we have our eyes on!
